Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC 1.
in effect

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66501. Section 66501.

The inability of lettuce shippers to maintain or expand present markets for iceberg lettuce results in an unreasonable and unnecessary economic waste and accompanying loss of employment to the California economy.

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66502. Section 66502.

These conditions vitally concern the health, peace, safety, and general welfare of the people of this state. It is, therefore, in the public interest to protect and enhance the reputation of California iceberg lettuce in intrastate, interstate, and foreign markets, and to otherwise act to eliminate unreasonable and unnecessary economic waste of the agricultural wealth of this state.

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66503. Section 66503.

The promotional, educational, economic and marketing research, and any similar activities authorized by this chapter will serve to expand existing markets and create new markets for California iceberg lettuce and to prevent agricultural waste and maintain employment, and are, therefore, in the interests of the welfare, economy, and health of the people of California.

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66504. Section 66504.

It is hereby declared to be the policy of this state to aid in preventing economic waste in the marketing of iceberg lettuce, to develop more efficient and equitable methods in marketing, and to maintain job security for workers in iceberg lettuce and related industries.

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66505. Section 66505.

The production and marketing of fresh California iceberg lettuce for human consumption is declared to be affected with a public interest. The provisions of this chapter are enacted in the exercise of the police power of this state for the purpose of protecting the health, peace, safety, and general welfare of the people of this state.

Cal. Food and Agricultural Code - FAC § 66506. Section 66506.

Notwithstanding any other laws to the contrary, in the event a commodity or marketing agreement or marketing order under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Agriculture, or other appropriate federal agency, is created by referendum or under the applicable laws and procedures relating thereto, in this state or in any geographical area within this state, which agreement or order contains provisions substantially similar to the provisions of this chapter, this chapter shall be inapplicable to any producer, shipper, or other person covered by, and, to the extent of such coverage, during the existence of, such federal agreement or order.
